The foot is a stable segment of the body and is greatly affected by ankle mechanics (and vice versa).
👩🏽⚕️The most common foot injury is plantar fasciitis which is inflammation of the plantar fascia (connective tissue) at the bottom of the foot. Poor gait mechanics, overuse and poor footwear are common causes of plantar fasciitis in golfers. The muscles in our feet are vital for creating stability and power in our swings; foot pain can have an effect on this!
🏌🏻♂️In our golf swing we want to feel our biggest pressure shifts in two key places. In our backswing, we should have our biggest pressure shift to the trail side by the time the lead arm is parallel to the ground. Once we begin our downswing and our lead arm returns back parallel to the ground we should have seen our pressure move more into our lead side.
💪The foot is often neglected, even by trainers, but it’s arguably the most important part of the body. If the muscles of the foot aren’t strong then chances are your body will be affected further along up the chain.
Begin by rolling out the bottom of the foot, be thorough. To strengthen the arch of the foot, bring the ball of the foot back toward the heel (like you are gripping the ground) lifting that arch. Try not to grab the ground with just your toes!
