TPI Niagara: Cervical Spine & Golf

One of the areas most don't often associate with a good golf swing is the cervical spine (neck). Adequate pain free rotation is very important. The neck should rotate AT LEAST 150 degrees total throughout the golf swing.🤯 That's a lot!

👩🏽‍⚕️Most common injuries at the neck include muscle strains (especially levator scapulae), facet irritation & strains and disc injuries. If you have any neck pain or discomfort, do not let it go unchecked, see your local chiropractor for a proper assessment and treatment!

🏌🏻‍♂️Adequate neck rotation without pain can ensure a proper shoulder turn in the backswing and follow through.

🏌🏻‍♂️Two of the major causes of neck pain in the swing is from a c-posture in setup and early extension in the downswing. Both positions over flex the neck downward excessively and with prolonged use can do significant damage to your range of motion.

💪Strengthening the deep neck flexors with this amped up version of the traditional chin tuck. This drill will help combat forward head posture, which most of us walk around with to some degree.

💪Next, mobilize rotation with the same protocol to restore greater levels of flexibility and control.
